There is a misconception among Western people over the age of sixty that Russian women are solidly built and dressed in dull brown colors. From their unattractive headscarves to their clumpy barnyard shoes, their appearance is thought to be uninspiring at best. But this picture is not accurate at all. Back in the sixties and seventies this description became ingrained in the Western mind. However, it has not reflected the appearance of Russian women for many years.

As well as being as lovely as any other women, Russian ladies are apt to be as highly qualified as women in the West. They form a large part of the professional workforce and hold the same kinds of responsibilities as men. It is an unfortunate fact that . Russian women far outnumber the males in their society. Ongoing wars have decimated the male population over the last two hundred years. In addition, the male lifespan is considerably shorter in Russia than in the West. Many Russian women experience young widowhood. Others endure the social stigma attached to being an unmarried woman over a certain age. This can be avoided by moving west in search of a mate.

Russian society has a strong, male authoritarian history. For many centuries, women were treated as chattels and had neither rights nor any way out of their predicament. Russia was not alone in their mistreatment of women. Apparently, many of the men there have not yet begun to modernise their attitudes. Western men are by no means perfect in this regard. However, many of them are closer to achieving an understanding of women’s needs.

Under the rule of Communism, Russia’s women gained equality in the workplace. This enabled them to take on such nontraditional jobs as road paving, sewer construction and heavy machinery repair. Most Russian women are better educated and more socially aware than their male counterparts. Whether or not they prefer such punishing physical labor, sometimes they must take these jobs. Many women there must work in order to help support their families. Sometimes this is because their husbands are unreliable employees.Some Russian women hope to find a Western husband who will appreciate all their abilities.

Russian women want to be appreciated for all their attributes, both physical and mental. Many of them wish to find a Western man who will be a loving husband and a good provider they hope also to be appreciated for brain rather than brawn.

It is not difficult to see why Russian women like Western men. It is because they feel that they have a good chance of happiness with them. They hope to combine work, family, respect and love with the men they marry. They believe they have a good chance of happiness in the West.
