Kiev Nightlife - the best places to go in 2012
There are a lot of different places in Kiev to tickle your fancy, from jazz lounges to dance clubs and salsa venues. Although, Kiev doesn’t have the range of cultural influences as a larger city like London, what it does offer is a lively atmosphere and something for every budget. The people here are very friendly, and as an English speaker, you will be accepted with open arms.
There are a number of very interesting lounge bars and nightclubs near the centre of Kiev. People tend to go out more on Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays, although the Vodka bar on Maidan Nezalezhnosti is open every night. Shooters pub is also open throughout the week.
Many Ukrainian nightclubs offer a range of different entertainments, including strip-shows, restaurant food and karaoke. The best places to go for a night on the tiles is the downtown area. Here, just off Kreschatik, you’ll find one of oldest and best nightclubs called Arena (Basseinaya 2 street). This nightclub complex covers 4 floors and offers something for everyone.
If you want other smart, glamorous and quite expensive nightclubs in the same area, you’re in luck, there’s quite a good choice. Skybar is typical of the clubs in the centre, as it aims to attract “successful and famous” people in the centre of Kiev. You’ll have a good time if you accept the rules and take it easy. I’m saying this because you often have to pay to sit down at a table in a Ukrainian nightclub. Scandalous! Skybar is a little bit different, having panoramic view of Kiev and an exclusive restaurant to boot. Salminsky, is another classy club, well-known for its house and electro music and good cocktails. Nearby is the Muzei Club on 10 Muzeinii Pereulok. Most of these places will have a good mix of Ukrainians and the odd foreigner.
If you want something which is slightly different atmosphere then head for the following. The Caribbean club offers salsa dancing. There is alternative music at the club Hlib. Furthermore, don’t forget Art club 44, with its low key cellar atmosphere, playing live reggae, jazz and blues music. The pubs, O’briens and Shooters offer a slow alcohol-based theme, focusing on sport and a “disco” atmosphere respectively. If you want karaoke head for Moskva restaurant, Just cafe, Godzila and Mafia, amongst others.
